If you’ve always wanted to participate in a 5k but are too nervous, the perfect one for your first time would be The Color Run. It’s not a timed race, it’s purely for fun. NO PRESSURE! This fun run is one of the most laid-back 5ks I’ve done. There were people walking, people running or walking with strollers but most of all, people just having fun. Even if you haven’t trained a day in your life, you will enjoy The Color Run.
*Note: The Color Run is not for the serious runner. I say this because the course was PACKED from start to finish, making it very difficult to run for time if that’s what you wanted to do. It could be done, but it may be pretty stressful on your part.
The Color Run started in waves. I’m not sure how big the waves were, but they started every 5 minutes. We got there around 7:30ish and there were already people standing in line like sardines!
The Twin Cities Color Run was at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. When we finally got on the same road as the starting line, here’s what we could see:
Everybody was so pumped and ready to go! The music definitely helped with that. I think we heard “Call Me Maybe” at least 3 times. Once was enough for me!
Along the way, it was so fun to see how many runners there were:
Look at how white everybody is!
That didn’t last too much longer.
We didn’t get a lot of color running through the first station and I think it’s because people would be running through so fast the “color-ers” couldn’t quite keep up. I can’t blame ’em for that!
So then I noticed everybody (including us!) would start walking through the color stations to be sure they got “colorfied”. Some people even laid down on the ground and rolled in it!
Slowing down to get more color was totally worth it. To me at least. ;)
Anddddd here’s the finish line:
The real fun started at the post-run party.
That’s where you really got some color!
“Who wants more color?!”
This was everybody waiting for the big color throw moment that they did every 20 minutes or so:
Getting a little head start with the packets we had on hand:
Inside the color cloud:
The complete “after” shot:
The Color Run was complete with a leaf blower to help get rid of excess color. Plenty of the color stick stuck after that!
After I got home, my 4-year-old wanted nothing to do with me. I had to do some serious convincing to get him to come near me for a pic:
Guess I can’t blame him. It looks like I got punched in the face!
Now, what to do with my shirt?
*Special shout-out to Mandy & Sarah for taking some of these great shots! The candids are my favorite!
If The Color Run comes your way, DO IT. It’s worth every penny.
