Talking about depression isn’t really all that fun but it’s something that is very real for millions of people everyday. When I think back to the beginning of my fitness journey, my experience with depression (and my ongoing fitness journey!) is the reason this blog exists.
Dealing with depression is easily the most difficult struggle of my life. It was ongoing for well over a decade and was crippling at its roughest times, which would come and go over and over again. In case you aren’t a regular reader, I recently wrote a book about my depression and what has helped me live a more enjoyable, more fulfilling, happier life. Never in my adult life have I felt as free as I do after writing that book.
It’s interesting because I haven’t really talked a whole lot about depression on this blog, despite it being such a huge part of my life, but it is my intention to bring it to light a lot more than I have been.
I have written a few posts on the subject:
- Fitness Motivation: Unique Ways to Get Motivated if Depressed
- Dealing with Struggles and Deciding to Be Happy
- My Thoughts on Depression and Robin Williams
- My #1 Treatment for Depression
- Blog for Mental Health Campaign 2015

One thing that used to bring me some comfort during difficult times were reading quotes about depression. Pinterest didn’t exist during that time but I do remember searching for quotes online or reading them in memoirs from authors who wrote about their own life experiences.
I love the inspiring ones but I would also find comfort in quotes that I could resonate with. It reminded me that I was not alone and I found great comfort in that at times.
Relatable Depression Quotes
I think you find that this one will make you laugh… or at least smile a little bit.
And finally, one of my favorite quotes of all time:
If you are depressed or you know somebody who is, I think it is important to not give up on the possibility of a more enjoyable life. It does take time and a tremendous amount of effort but anything worth having does. Your life is worth it. You are worth it. You have plenty of time to start creating a more enjoyable life for yourself. You have the power to steer your life in any direction you choose.
You don’t have to suffer.
You don’t have to stay silent.
There are people out there who understand. Like me.
Begin with a single baby step and try to keep moving forward.
