Do you have a fitness fear? I do. And it has to do with box jumps. I remember being pretty nervous to attempt my first ever box jump. It took me several tries to get the confidence to jump. It didn’t seem possible that I could jump 18″ high. And when I did, boom! Made it just fine.
When it comes to workouts.. I lift, do circuits or cardio or something and everything usually goes pretty well.
That was.. up until yesterday.

BBX Challenge Week 5 Day 4
On Monday I started week 5 of Christmas Abbott’s Badass Body Challenge and I’ve been loving it so far. Even after yesterday, I’m still loving it. Most workouts are no longer than 30 minutes total – many are much less – and I’m always drenched in sweat when I’m finished. I was also really sore during the first 3 weeks but not so much anymore.
So on the menu for yesterday was a circuit involving box jumps. The sets were in the format of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. There were other exercises too but that’s a lot of box jumps (55)! I was excited because I could make use of our DIY plyo boxes.
It’s been a long time since I have done box jumps. All was going really great until I got to the set of 5. I successfully completed 4 box jumps and totally flubbed the last one in the set. My left foot didn’t quite make it up to the top, it hit the edge instead and down I went. Shin gliding not-so-gracefully down the corner of my box. I haven’t felt that much pain in a long, long time.
I didn’t wanna get too up close and personal because I know injury photos are disgusting but… I took one anyway. It’s much more disgusting in person. It hardly bled. The blood in the picture is about it, which I was so thankful for. I think the leggings I was wearing protected me some or it could’ve been a lot worse.

Since I only had my 4-3-2-1 sets left I finished the workout (replacing box jumps with dumbbell step-ups). I attempted to do the after burn exercise but that was not happening.
I went upstairs to wash my wound, drown it in Neosporin and wrap it. Then I went back downstairs, laid on the floor to ice and elevate my leg for a good 20 minutes. I had a lot of time to think about how funny my slip probably looked. Within minutes my leg was throbbing. I don’t know if I’ve ever bruised a bone before but what I can tell you is that it hurts. A LOT. It does feel a little better today though. The worst pain was the 1-2 hours right after the fall.
I’m supposed to do a run/sprint workout today but that’s not happening. I think I’ll see how I’m feeling after work and then switch up the workouts if there’s something else I’m able to do.
I still like box jumps.
Completing 44 box jumps before the mishap wasn’t so bad. ;)
