The Beachbody Barre Blend workout is the latest program in the Beachbody On Demand library to date. A different kind of workout to kickstart a brand new decade. No, I am not part of the new year, new me movement! I like me. I prefer same me but always working to be better.
Barre Blend creator, Elise Joan, also co-creator of 3 Week Yoga Retreat (which feels ahhhhmazing) spent four months creating this program and there’s currently nothing like it on BOD.
Elise began ballet at just 3 years old. She loved the freedom of movement and self-expression that it provided for her. She believes that movement is something that can bring joy, help us find ourselves, define ourselves, and heal ourselves. Agreed!
She also believes that our internal dialog is super important so while she was creating the program she also came up with 60 affirmations — one for each workout in the program. They are each on separate affirmation cards and she purposely started them all with “I am” (not “One day I could be…) followed by a positive affirmation to start your day right. There are preprinted affirmation cards and then a few blank cards for you to write in whatever you want.
Barre Blend Has 3 Distinct Levels: Modifier, Mid-level, Intensifier
- Modifier: Low to no impact, limited range of motion, no jumping. Modified does not mean easy! The modifier level is great for beginners, third trimester prenatal, postnatal; those who have knee issues, low back issues. This program will strengthen and increase mobility in your hips, elongate your spine, and strengthen your core.
- Mid-level: Low to no impact, no jumping. Elise used 2-pound weights throughout; attempted 3-pound weights and was quickly humbled. This level is for all body shapes, sizes, and ages whether you have experience or not. The cast ranges in age from 20’s to 40’s with varying levels of experience.
- Intensifier: High impact and for those who love high impact; jumping. Resistance loops are added in here. All levels of this workout are safe to do barefoot. I love working out in my bare feet!
Elise recommends everybody starts out following the modifier and then gradually progress to the next level each time the program is completed. She’s designed the program with replay ability in mind. The fact that there are 3 different levels means there are 180 unique workouts or 3 different programs in one. I get bored pretty easily so not sure I could do that but it’d definitely be interesting to try!
She credits barre with lifting her booty despite being into her 40’s and the challenges that getting older brings. Ahem, gravity wanting to pull every damn thing down.

Beachbody Barre Blend Workout Schedule
- 5 unique workouts per week. The calendar is Monday through Friday but you can always manipulate the schedule to work with your own. As long as you get all 5 workouts in each week, you’re good! I prefer weekends off so I’m a big fan of this 5 days a week idea. :)
A Quick Note on Barre Blend Nutrition
You cannot reach your physical optimal fitness level if you’re not nourishing yourself nutritionally. ~ Elise Joan
Elise is all about balance. She recommends to stay well-hydrated and well-nourished making sure to drink lots of water and eat lots of veggies and add in some healthy fats too.

Barre Blend is on my fitness program to-do list for 2020. More on that soon. I’m a little worried about it being too slow but I’m always up for a challenge and trying something new!
