For the beginning of summer, I bring you 3 challenges! One of them is a 30-day hybrid workout I created and I think it’s a great mix of strength and cardio. More on that a little bit later.
Can you believe June is already here?! 2013 is almost halfway over. That is CRAZY to me!
Because I’ve been feeling extra inspired lately, I’m preparing for a few different challenges this month. They are not all fitness-related but I’m posting because I know there are some people who may be interested in the same types of challenges. I find challenges to be pretty motivating, maybe you do too?
But first, here was my yummy breakfast this morning:
I cut up fresh pineapple and baked some bacon so I wouldn’t burn myself in a million places. Plus I like how the bacon stays in longer strips when it’s baked. Is that weird?
I also had a shake to go with it.
On to the challenges!
First up, my personalized declutter challenge. I’ve seen these things all over Pinterest but I wanted to create my own because I wanted it to be personalized to what I wanted to accomplish. I cannot possibly do any spring cleaning when there is so much stuff around! You never realize how much stuff can pile up until you have kids. They outgrow toys, clothing, and books faster than I can blink.
Translation: unused stuff everywhere. So you’ll find lots of kid-related decluttering on my list.
I don’t plan on following this exact schedule for June, but I will attempt at least one area PER DAY and cross it off as I go. Areas like the garage and cars will be reserved for weekends.
Next up, my personal “Push” challenge with some help from the book’s author, Chalene Johnson. I like to keep my brain busy (as if school, blogging, kids, and work weren’t enough) and I like to push myself. I guess this is why I’m a sophomore in college working on my bachelor’s at the age of 30.
I purchased Push over a year ago and completed the first half but then never finished. Today, I am re-starting the entire thing to get my brain focused on the things that I want to focus on to better myself and my family. It’s a book with 30 days of prompts/exercises which is perfect for the month of June.
First up, my personal mission statement. I’m so excited to get this started!
I also personalized a composition notebook to detail the work I do throughout this book. There are places to write in the book but I know over time my goals and things will change so I don’t want to write directly into the book since I know I will use it again. Solution: A journal!
And last but not least…
My 30-day workout challenge!
I put together a special hybrid that features some of my favorite workouts from some of my favorite programs. I have serious workout ADD so I think this will work for me instead of against me! A lot of the hybrids I’ve seen are for 60-90 days but sometimes that’s just too long for me. So, I’ve come up with my own 30-day program to focus on for June though it can be started at any time.
☆ 30 Day Hybrid: ChaLEAN Extreme + Les Mills Pump + TurboFire HIITs ☆
*Les Mills Pump and ChaLEAN Extreme are both full body resistance training workouts so I have added the TurboFire HIITs 3x per week (no more than 3 HIIT workouts in a 7-day stretch) for cardio. The HIITs are fun and they get it done! If I’m gonna do cardio I tend to stick to HIIT because it’s quick and effective.
Although you can do strength and cardio workouts in any order you choose, I prefer to do cardio immediately after lifting. I’ve read in several magazines (Oxygen, Fitness RX and Muscle and Fitness Hers) that you burn more fat that way so I’m stickin with it.
**Whichever order tickles your fancy is better than not at all!
