Quickie Lower Body Workout

Good morning! I hope you’re having a good day so far. Today is Miss G’s 8th birthday and all the kids are off school today so I hope she has a fun day!

I’ve got a busy day ahead of me with the boys home and plenty of cleaning around the house to do but I wanted to quickly share the lower body workout I did yesterday. I think you might like it because it’s quick, effective and can be done at home…cuz that’s what I do. ;)

You may or may not know that I started Insanity a few weeks ago and it’s been making me absolutely crazy so I thought it’d be best to take a break from it yesterday and try something different. I have been craving shorter (yet still effective) workouts because things have been so crazy busy lately. If you aren’t familiar with Insanity, I’m currently almost mid-way through the second and final month and most of these workouts have been over an hour. I knew this workout would be very challenging for me but dang… 20 to 45 minutes is really my sweet spot as far as how much time I spend working out goes.

So anyway, yesterday I designed a quick but effective workout and I’m feeling it in my legs today. I’m also feeling it a lot in my glutes and that’s always a good thing, right?

Quickie Lower Body Workout

Equipment needed:

  • Dumbbells
  • Treadmill (optional)

Directions:

Perform all five exercises one time through as a circuit. Rest 60 seconds in between each full circuit. Complete 2 to 4 rounds depending on your fitness level. The circuit portion of this workout will take approximately 15 to 25 minutes depending on your fitness level and how hard you push yourself.

Blast your calves! After you’ve completed 2 to 4 circuits, wrap up this lower body workout with a 10 to 20 minute steep incline treadmill walk at a brisk pace, or find a hill if you have one.

*Tip: Use dumbbells as an added challenge and lift a weight that challenges you to the end. If you don’t have any dumbbells to use, slow your reps down and really concentrate on the muscle movement to challenge yourself a bit more. (Just a little trick I learned from Chalene Johnson in Chalean Extreme.)
